An early morning departure from Vero Beach

An early morning departure from Vero Beach

We parked the boat in the marina in Vero Beach, Florida and departed Vero Beach by

rental car on November 23 and drove to northern Virginia for a series of events….Bill’s 65th belated birthday celebration, Emma’s, our granddaughter, 3rd birthday, Thanksgiving, and yes, the big event for the year….the Alabama/Auburn football game. What a packed few days!!

We arrived in northern Virginia on November 24, checked into the hotel on Ft Belvoir Military Installation, and

headed to visit with Emma……okay, yes, we also visited with her family as well. Emma is such a big girl now. She has been attending daycare and will start pre-school in a couple of weeks. She even told us that she was a BIG girl now and not a baby…wow, they do grow up fast don’t they?

So, what have we done for the last 3 days? Well, we have tried our best to spoil Emma, ate dinner together,

played ball with her, and have done a lot of swinging and sliding on the playground. Whew, we were tired and out of breath sometimes….those slides will do it to you. After a good day of playing, we did sleep very well at night!!

We will depart northern Virginia on November 28 and drive back to Vero Beach. The Alabama/Auburn football game is scheduled for Saturday afternoon so we will stop our travels early and find a good hotel to watch the game. This football game has historical roots in our family with Terri supporting Auburn and me of course the victorious Alabama team. Since 1974, the job of dishwashing in our

household for a year is determined by which team wins. Two years ago, according to Bill, Alabama sent its “B” team and not its best, as Auburn won and Bill was washing dishes for a year. Of course Terri indicated I was making too much of a mess and using too much water so she took over. Of course, last year, Alabama won so Terri just continued to wash dishes……hee, hee, hee!

When we return to Vero Beach, we plan to get any last minute supplies and prepare the boat for an offshore passage. In previous years, we departed Ft Lauderdale for Bimini then on to Nassau and the Exumas chain in the Bahamas. This year, we may try a different approach and go from Lake Worth to the Abacos then through Eleuthera to the Exumas. Who knows? We are not on a schedule so we will let the weather determine which way we go.

Until our next update….which we hope will be from the Bahamas……
